Listen to largest and loudest cricket in the world perform buzzing call

The giant burrowing cricket is reputedly the largest and loudest cricket in the world with a powerful, continuous buzzing call that can be heard over one and a half kilometers away.

The video shows a male giant burrowing cricket, hesitant at first, getting out of his burrow to perform his extremely noisy and high-pitched call.

The video captures how the insect produces his sound by rubbing his wings together.

At the base of the forewing, a thick, ridged vein acts as a file. The upper surface of the forewing is hardened, like a scraper.

When the male giant cricket calls for a mate, he lifts his wings and pulls the file of one wing across the scraper of the other.

The thin, papery portions of the wings vibrate, amplifying the sound.

“During a recent camping trip to the Kruger National Park, we found ourselves overwhelmed by the noise of these insects at nighttime,” the filmer said.

“Each male’s call would last up to three minutes at a time,” the filmer added. “With hundreds of these crickets going at once every 15 minutes, there was not much sleep for anyone in the camp that night.”

This Devilish Creature Is Stronger Than Any Armored Tank In The World

Scientists wondered how a teeny-tiny beetle could get smashed under a Toyota Camry and walk away without a scratch.
According to Business Insider, the diabolical ironclad beetle, or phloeodes diabolicus, can have something 39,000 times its own weight stomp on it--and still survive.
That superhero-level ability is due to hardened casings on each wing that interlock and support the beetle's exoskeleton, like a 3D jigsaw puzzle.
The researchers found three different types of connections, called lateral supports, between the top and bottom halves of the beetle's exoskeleton.
An analysis of the beetles' hardened casings on top of each forewing shows that the shields can deform under enormous weight without losing their shape.
Better, stronger planes and armored vehicles could be designed by mimicking the interlocking nature of these protective layers.

A dragonfly is an insect belonging to the order Odonata

A dragonfly is an insect belonging to the order Odonata, infraorder Anisoptera (from Greek anisos, "uneven" and pteron, "wing", because the hindwing is broader than the forewing). Adult dragonflies are characterized by large, multifaceted eyes, two pairs of strong, transparent wings, sometimes with coloured patches, and an elongated body. Dragonflies can be mistaken for the related group, damselflies (Zygoptera), which are similar in structure, though usually lighter in build; however, the wings of most dragonflies are held flat and away from the body, while damselflies hold the wings folded at rest, along or above the abdomen. Dragonflies are agile fliers, while damselflies have a weaker, fluttery flight. Many dragonflies have brilliant iridescent or metallic colours produced by structural coloration, making them conspicuous in flight. An adult dragonfly's compound eyes have nearly 24,000 ommatidia each.
